Product Description
Durable Rock Wool Boards Ideal For Long-Term Construction Projects
As a mainstream thermal insulation and fire-resistant material, the durability and persistence of rock wool boards come from their stable physical and chemical structure as well as resistance to environmental interference. Their core characteristics can be outlined in four aspects, and key factors affecting long-term performance also need attention.
Performance
Their thermal insulation, fire resistance, and other physical properties stay stable for a long time, with excellent adaptability to extreme temperatures and humidity. Ordinary rock wool works stably between -268℃ and 700℃; it won't deform or lose performance due to thermal expansion and contraction amid winter-summer temperature differences, making it suitable for cold and hot regions.
High-quality rock wool, added with water repellents, has a volume water absorption rate below 3%. In high-humidity environments, it won't reduce insulation performance or gain weight from water absorption, avoiding freeze-thaw damage. As a Class A non-combustible material, its fire resistance--determined by inorganic components--doesn't weaken over time, ensuring long-term building safety.
Advantages
Through fiber interweaving and adhesive curing, rock wool boards form a three-dimensional structure, with good compression, tensile, and impact resistance, and slow strength attenuation. They have a compressive strength of ≥40kPa (≥80kPa for high-density types), so they won't collapse or deform permanently under long-term loads on walls or roofs, maintaining stable insulation thickness.
When bonded to substrates with special adhesives (tensile bond strength ≥0.15MPa), they resist stress from temperature changes and wind pressure, reducing cracking and falling risks, which makes them ideal for high-rise external insulation. With surface reinforcement using rendering mortar and mesh, they can prevent internal fiber damage from accidental collisions.
With proper design, construction, and maintenance, rock wool boards have a service life of over 25 years, matching the 50-year design life of buildings. For external wall insulation, if the protective layer is intact, the core material needs no frequent replacement; for industrial equipment insulation (e.g., boilers), in enclosed environments, it lasts over 30 years, cutting maintenance costs.
In conclusion, the durability of rock wool boards lies in the chemical stability of inorganic materials, wide temperature adaptability, and anti-aging/anti-interference abilities. With standard use, they have slow performance attenuation and long service life, making them outstanding in building insulation. However, to maximize their long-term value, high-quality products, proper construction, and maintenance are essential.
